Unique Ways to Charge Your Phone

Unique Ways to Charge Your Phone When You Don’t Have a Charger

It has happens: you lost your charger, it broke, you just do not have it with you when you need it, or the electricity goes out. While this is not as comparable to the catastrophes encountered by the rest of the world, it can leave you feeling anxious, alone, and bored. How can you charge your phone? Well, if you happen to have any of these cool chargers, you will be fine.

Hand Crank

Eton’s BoostTurbine 2000 is one way to charge your phone. If you are unfamiliar with the name, Eton offers hand-cranked emergency devices that will allow you to charge anything from flashlights and radios to phones with a hand crank. For each minute you crank the BoostTurbine 2000, you get 30 seconds of talk time. A full phone battery charge would take about three hours of cranking. It would not be enough to charge laptops or tablets.

Fire Charger

If you are camping, BioLite’s CampStove, a portable stove, will use heat to power a thermoelectric generator, which can then be used to charge most USB chargeable devices like your phone. It takes a while to start charging, but 20 minutes of charging provides about an hour of calling usage on most phones.

Solar Charging

The sun is an extremely powerful energy source. The Solio BOLT Battery Pack + Solar Charger lets you quickly and efficiently take advantage of this green-energy source. It is lightweight and has rotating solar panels and an on-board battery so that you never have to be without power. It charges most USB powered devices, and a full day of charging in direct sunlight completely charges the battery.

Fruit

Plug an iPhone or a Galaxy into an apple or pear (or a potato) and see what happens. If you have the right tools, time, and a lot of fruit you can spare, it can be a fun way to charge your phone. You will have to build a circuit and will need items like strips of zinc and copper, and the fruit or root veggie of your choice. The electricity is generated from everything working together, generating about half a volt of electricity per fruit. Of course this means that it is not very efficient, but it could work.
