Bird's-eye Maple

Grown mostly in the upper peninsula of Michigan, Bird’s-Eye Maple is a creamy-white wood with a unique burl that looks like the eyes of birds. Bird’s-Eyes occur primarily in Sugar Maple trees and is a relatively rare kind of grain pattern resulting from distortions in the grown rings of the tree. Ultimately, how the tree forms these unique patterns is a mystery that wood scientists have yet to decipher.
